How can global food brands understand the evolving relationship between food, health and consumer wellbeing? A global food company’s innovation team wanted to explore an emerging consumer shift: the growing interest in food that supports health, wellbeing and prevention. Rather than looking at wellness solely through modern science and data, the team wanted to understand how traditional food philosophies across Asia have long viewed food as a pathway to balance and nourishment and how these ideas continue to influence modern expectations.

The Brief

The client needed an immersive way to understand the cultural roots of modern wellness trends. They wanted to examine how historical approaches to wellbeing continue to dictate the purchasing choices, flavour preferences, and health goals of today’s consumers.

What TourThisCity Built

TourThisCity designed a sensory learning journey exploring two traditional wellness systems, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda, and their continued relevance in today’s food landscape.

The experience guided the team through several distinct phases:

  • Through an expert-led session with a registered TCM practitioner, participants explored the fundamentals of Traditional Chinese Medicine, traditional perspectives on ingredients, and the role of food within traditional approaches to wellbeing. This was followed by a TCM-inspired vegetarian dining experience.
  • Participants explored Ayurvedic perspectives on food, lifestyle and individual wellbeing, including how Ayurveda approaches food in relation to individual constitution, different perspectives on nourishment, and similarities between Asian wellness traditions.
  • The journey concluded with a creative drink experience inspired by Singapore’s multicultural heritage, showing how history, culture and innovation can come together to create meaningful food experiences.

What Participants Took Away

The most valuable insight was not simply learning about traditional wellness philosophies. It was understanding how cultural ideas and traditions continue to influence modern consumer expectations. The experience encouraged participants to look beyond the headline trend and consider the deeper cultural beliefs, behaviours and experiences driving it.

Through tasting, conversations and reflection, participants explored why consumers are increasingly seeking food with purpose, how sensory experiences shape perceptions, and how cultural traditions can inspire future innovation. Key takeaways directly related to their business right away included:

  • Immediate inspiration for future food innovation, wellness product development, and health-focused messaging.
  • Actionable perspectives on the growing consumer interest in food and holistic wellbeing in an Asian context.
  • Practical insights into how traditional wellness philosophies influence the buying habits of modern consumers.
  • Strategies for using taste, memory, and cultural storytelling to shape impactful consumer experiences.
  • A deeper appreciation of culture as a direct driver of food behaviour and market demand.

Client Feedback

“This has exceeded expectations. The content was good, the team was very engaged in discussions, the food and drinks were very tasty, and time management was on point. Thank you for all your creative and inspirational work. We look forward to continued collaborations with you.”
